One day a countryman went to the nest of his goose, and he found a yellow, glittering egg.  When he lifted it up it was as heavy as lead and he was going to throw it away, because he thought a trick had been played upon him.  But he took it home on second thoughts, and soon found to his delight that it was an egg of pure gold.

Every morning the same thing occurred, and he soon became rich by selling his golden eggs.  It was not long before he grew impatient with the goose, because she gave him only a single golden egg a day.

As he grew rich, he also grew greedy. He thought he could get all the gold at once by killing the goose. After killing it, he opened it only to find nothing. “Those who have plenty want more, causing them to lose all they have.”

Patty the Milkmaid was going to market carrying her milk in a pail on her head.  As she went along, her head was busy with plans for the days ahead.  She began calculating what she would do with the money she would get for the milk.

"I'll buy some chickens from Farmer Brown," said she, "and they will lay eggs each morning, which I will sell to the minister's wife.  With that money, I'll buy myself a new fancy frock and a chip hat. When I go to market, all the young men will come up and speak to me!  Polly Shaw will be jealous; but I don't care.  I shall just look at her and toss my head like this.

As she spoke she tossed her head back, the pail fell off it, and all the milk was spilt.  So she had to go home and tell her mother what had occurred.  “Ah, my child," said the mother, “Don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched."

Do you know what a moral is? Moral is what is believed to be good or bad by the majority of people. In a story, morals are the important meanings of a story. With ideas like be good or this might happen to you, etc.

How people react to things are usually dependent on their sense of morals. A person with high morals may become upset or look down on dishonesty.

We will go over some stories with morals to learn.
