This week our P5 students are studying how to talk about what people should do when they are sick.
First, they learned how to say they are not feeling well using the phrase "I think I have..."
For example: "I think I have the flu" or "I think I have allergies."
Then, they learned how to give advice for different sicknesses.
To give advice, we can use the phrase: "If you have..., you should..."
For example: "If you have the flu, you should see a doctor."
Let's try to stay healthy but practice using these phrases just in case!

This week our P1 students are learning how to ask for food politely.
We are practicing common foods such as pizza, rice, bread, and cheese.
To ask for something politely, we just need to use the word "please"!
For example: "Pizza, please." 🍕
One of our students was even able to ask for two things using the word "and"!
She said this on her own: "Pizza and cheese, please." 🍕🧀
Her mom and I were very proud. This shows that children can learn faster than we think.
Let's try practicing using the word "please" at home.

"I Used to Like" and "Now I Like"
This week our P4 students are learning how to talk about the things they like to do, before and now!
To talk about things we liked to do before, when we were younger, we say: "I used to like."
For example: "I used to like playing with toy cars." 🚗
To talk about things we like to do now, we say: "Now I like."
For example: "Now I like riding bikes." 🚴
We can combine these two sentences together to make a longer one! We do this using the word "but."
For example: "I used to like playing with toy cars, but now I like riding bikes."
What did you like to do when you were younger? What do you like to do now?
Let's practice using longer sentences!

In our P4 course, the students are learning how to use the expression "used to like~". We talked about things that the characters from the book like doing when they were younger, but now, not anymore. For example, our character Toshi: "He used to like playing with toy cars." For our character Yumi: "She used to like playing with dolls." These are things they like doing when they were 4 years old. How about you? What did you use to like to do when you were a kid?

This and That! These and Those!
Recently, our P3 students have been learning about the words "this" and "that."
We use "this" to talk about things that are close to us and "that" for things that are far away.
Q: "What is this?" 👉🍎
A: "It's an apple."
Q: "What is that (over there)?" 👉 🍎
A: "It's an apple."
Remember we only use "this/that" for singular things! For example, 1 apple.
To talk about plural things, we must use "these" and "those."
Q: "What are these?" 👉🍎🍎
A: "They're apples."
Q: "What are those (over there)?" 👉 🍎🍎
A: "They're apples."
This is an easy question-and-answer pattern to practice outside of Amity!

What was the best part of the movie?
中学2年生の英会話クラスでは、映画や小説について話す練習をしています。
最近観た映画を聞くと、なんと生徒全員が同じ映画を観ていました!
そこで、それぞれにどのパートが一番良かったのか聞いてみると、
"The best part was near the end, when she decided to be a teacher."
"The best part was near the end, when he send a letter to her."
とそれぞれ違った感想を聞かせてくれました☺
英語で映画の感想を話している姿は素敵でした✨
What Was He Doing? What Is He Doing Now?
This week our P4 students are learning about using the verb "be" in past and present.
We are practicing this using the pronouns he and she.
To talk about things that someone else did in the past we use "was."
For example: "He was playing soccer."
To talk about things that someone else is doing now we use "is."
For example: "He is playing soccer."
We also use "was" and "is" to ask our questions!
Q: "What was he doing?"
A: "He was doing homework."
Q: "What is he doing now?"
A: "He is eating dinner."
