Hello Amity students! This is Ethan from Sendai Amity! Every week, I will be posting a short article to help everyone practice reading! Today we will be talking about American Farmer's Markets!
The United States has a very agricultural-focused past, with a majority of cities across the country originally starting as farming towns. Furthermore, much of this farming history is celebrated. Farming has such deep roots in American culture that much of the school calendar has breaks during seasonal times for the planting and harvesting of crops.
While much of American agriculture has shifted to large factory farms, towns and cities continue to support local farmers through farmer's markets. Farmer's markets are weekly events where local farmers and craftsmen can set up stalls and shops to sell their goods. Farmer's markets also where many local musicians perform. Hot kettle popcorn is especially famous at farmer's markets, where fresh sugar-covered popcorn is made in a huge pot. Vegetables and honey are also very popular.
