Labor Day 🛠️
Hello Mito Amity students and family! (ㅅ´ ˘ `)
Today, we will be talking about a holiday from the United States of America: Labor Day. Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of every September. This means that Labor Day was on September 2nd this year! `Labor` is another word for `work`, so Labor Day celebrates the social and economic achievements of the American workers.
In other words, Labor Day is a holiday that celebrates the workers that continue to contribute to their communities and their country! The first Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882 in New York City. After that, more and more countries began to adopt their own versions of a Labor Day holiday. For example, Labor Day in Japan is on May 1st!
People usually spend Labor Day having a picnic, a barbeque, or a pool party with family and friends. It all depends on where you live! Americans who live near the ocean might go to the beach, and other Americans who live near a lake will go there. It is informally known as the last day of summer – even though the first day of autumn is not until September 21st to 24th!
I hope you found this article about Labor Day interesting. We look forward to seeing all of you in your next Amity lesson!
