Hi! Everyone how`s your weekend? I hope you`re all doing well.

Halo Halo!

Good morning everyone! I am back again with a delicious dessert from the Philippines.

Today we are going to talk about Halo-Halo which means mix-mix when translated to English.
From the name itself, this dessert is made from a wide range of ingredients and all you need to do is mix them together. Are you willing to give it a try? If yes here are the ingredients:

1. Shaved ice

2. Condensed Milk

3. Sweet Red Bean

4. Ice cream

5. Fruits

6. Plain Cereal

7. Flan

8. Evaporated Milk

9. Purple Yam

10. Coconut jelly

Now, after you prepared all the ingredients, you need to put the shaved iced first, after that, mix the right amount of evaporated milk and condensed milk. Lastly you can put the rest of the ingredients and mix it all together. You can adjust the ingredients if you think it`s not enough.

Backseat Convo!

Hello Everyone I hope you are having a great week!

Today I would like to talk to you about how to take the backseat when having English conversations!

One of the best ways to get better and be more comfortable having conversations in English is to allow more experienced speakers to do most of the talking. You will still talk but you will mostly encourage them to take the lead and limit your responses. Here is an example:

Dexter: Hey D, how are you?
Deedee: Good. You?
Dexter: I`m great. Just came back from the Lab.
Deedee: Yeah? How was it?
Dexter: Great. I have been working on a new invention. It`s INSANE.
Deedee: Wow. When can I see it?
Dexter: Soon. I should be done in a few weeks.
Deedee: Can`t wait! What is it?
Dexter: It`s a robot that does all of your homework!
Deedee: Wow! So Cool!

In this conversation Deedee is mostly reacting and moving the conversation forward by asking questions. Asking questions is one of the best ways of improving your English as you get double the practice. You get to practice making questions and you get to practice listening to how a native speaker answers. After asking the same question(s) many times you will have a much clearer idea of how those questions are answered naturally! And you will be able to use what you have learned to answer those questions yourself!

I hope this will help you improve your English!

Have a fantastic week and weekend!

Introductions!

Hello Everyone! I hope you have had a great weekend!

The new school year started at Amity last week and I would like to talk to you about introductions! We have had so many of those so far!

Knowing how to introduce yourself in English can greatly increase your confidence level with the language. As it is something that you will do often and knowing what to say and how to say it can go a long way in helping you feel more comfortable with English.

Let us take a look at some basic introductions.

Sam: Hello. I'm Sam. What's your name?
Yuma: I'm Yuma. I'm from Japan. Where are you from?
Sam: I'm from Cuba. It's in the Carribean.
Yuma: I see. Cuba. Nice country.

In this sample, they go Statement-Question. Then they respond with Answer-Statement-Question. It is good practice to always ask a question or add extra information to keep up the flow of conversation. For children it is more like this:

Jimmy: Hello. My name is Jimmy.
Rio-kun: My name is Rio. Nice to meet you.
Jimmy: Nice to meet you too. What grade are you in?
Rio-kun: I'm in the first grade. How about you?
Jimmy: Me too! Let's be friends!
Rio-kun: Yes! Let's!

This pattern of saying two or more things is a great way to practice your fluency. If you do so your English will improve drastically and so will your confidence!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your week!

The purple egg!

Hello everyone, today I`m going to share a famous dish from the Philippines.
Yes, you guessed it right they are called the purple egg or salted egg ( Itlog na maalat).
This egg is a famous delicacy from my home country the Philippines.

First these egg goes through a process called curing. In the curing process the duck or chicken eggs are placed ina special salt solution for several weeks. After that, they are boiled and dyed red by soaking them in a red food coloring but the final color is usually purple.

The curing process makes the egg yolk firm while the egg white turns into a gelatin like texture. The texture can be a little grainy and it is saltier than most eggs. I know, you might be wondering. Who would eat a salty egg?
Well, Filipinos do.

The most famous recipe for salted eggs is called "Ensaladang Itlog" or an "Egg Salad".
First , you need to have the salted eggs. After that, prepare the tomatoes, onion and cucumber(optional).
If you want to upgrade the dish you also add avocado and a little bit vinegar.
Would you like to give it a try?

I have a good news for you. You can purchase these eggs in Japan! So if you see a purple colored egg give it a try. It will definitely be a good experience.
