I'm sure you all know about the Japanese holiday 'Setsubun', but today let's learn how to talk about it in English! 🔠
Q: What does Setsubun mean?
A: It means 'division of the seasons'. In other words, it represents the transition from Winter to Spring. ❄️ -> 🌸
It is also designed to ward off bad luck and evil and welcome good luck and fortune into the home. 👋😈
Q: How is Setsubun celebrated?
A: There are many different types of celebrations at shrines across Japan! ⛩️
Q: What is the 'bean throwing ceremony'?
A: It's when people throw beans to ward off bad luck! 🫘
Q: How do you say "Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!" in English?
A: You can say "Demons, out! Good luck, in!". 👹🍀
