👋May Day! May Day! Spring in the UK!👋
It's May, and that means one thing in the UK!
In the UK, not many people know about Children's Day but we do have events for May Day and the Spring Bank Holiday! They are special holidays in the UK to mark the midway point between Spring and Summer. We try to enjoy nature, music and good food together🍔
May Day has always been a symbol of Spring, and a tradition dance takes place where people dance around a "Maypole" with ribbons while Morris Dancers perform too. 🕺
It's a pretty interesting event, and you definitely won't see it everywhere. You will normally find those events in villages, not big towns, so be on the look out for those areas!
In Scotland, they will hold big bonfire events to celebrate the middle of Spring and Summer, too🔥
May is full of special events or "awareness" days and weeks, which not everybody might know about!
・Star Wars Day May 4th (May the Force Be With You!)👽
・Eurovision Song Contest from May 7th (different countries compete in a singing competition)🎶
・National Children's Day May 12th (for healthy children)👶
・Walk to School Week May 20th-24th (walk or cycle to school for health and the environment)🌍
・World Bee Day (raise awareness of the importance of bees)🐝
・Spring Half-Term May 27th to 31st (schools close for the week in the middle of the term)📚
May is a great time in the UK because we can feel the summer slowly coming, and we prepare ourselves for more time outdoors in nature with friends and family.
We can go to concerts and music festivals, food markets and events for burgers or fish and chips and hiking the hills or the moors.
Have a great May and enjoy every moment of Spring changing into the Summer🌞
