It is because the Milano-Cortina Games are the first Winter Olympics to fully embrace the International Olympic Committee's new cost-cutting reforms, which means that existing venues are being used.

It is known as the
Milano-Cortina Games because the Games are taking place in a vast area across northern Italy.
The locations are the following:
- Antholz/Anterselva
- Bormio
- Cortina
- Livigno
- Milan
- Predazzo
- Tesero
- Verona
