P5 Class, What are we studying? 最近の4年生から6年生の授業内容
Hello,
I'd like to share what we have been studying with our 4th- 6th grade elementary school students recently.
In recent lessons we have been focusing on describing physical features. For example, eye color, hair color and length. We also learned some more specific vocabulary for desribing facial features such as "freckles, dimples, glasses, a moustache, long eyelashes."
We practiced changing these sentences for I, he and she. We also practiced how to list many features together to make a long sentence. When we use many adjectives we have a specific order to use. That basically means NUMBER, OPINION, SIZE, SHAPE, COLOR. For example;
"She has two beautiful, big, round, brown eyes."
OR
"He has cool, short, curly, black hair."
What do you look like?
Kindly, Alex.

Hello,
I'd like to share what we have been studying with our 1st to 3rd grade students recently.
In recent lessons, we have been focusing on introducing past tense sentences. We used past tense to explain where we were yesterday.
"I was at the park."
And present tense to explain where we are now.
"I am at home."
We also used past and present tense to explain how our interests have changed since we were younger.
For example, when I was young "I used to like playing with lego", but now "I like playing video games."
Or in Lily sensei's case. "She used to like playing with dolls, but now she likes playing board games."
How have your interests changed since you were young?
Kindly, Alex.

Origins of Valentine's Day.
Good Afternoon,
Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14th. It is a day where we give chocolate to our loved ones, confess our feelings and celebrate love.
Do you know the origins of valentine's day? It's about saint Valentine. There are a couple of stories about why he was martyred. One says he was a priest who secretly married couples during a time of war as married men were less likely to be conscribed into the army. ANother story says that Valentine was a bishop who helped christian prisoners escape by befriending the jailors daughter, sending her notes signed "from your valentine".
While in Japan chocolate seems to be the primary purpose of valentines day, in other cultures the tradition of confessing feelings and writing love letters still holds.
Will you be sending any valentine's this year?
Strawberry picking season!
Good Afternoon,
It's strawberry season now! According to the net, February is the best time for going strawberry picking in Japan.
Do you have any plans to go strawberry picking? In the US strawberry picking is also popular, however in the US the strawberry picking season is much later; from mid May to early July. California and Florida are the top two strawberry producing states in the US. Oxnard, California is the strawberry capital of the world. It ships about 16 million trays of fruit annually. They grow well here because the weather is moderate all year round and they have sunny days and cool, humid nights.
Let us know if you go strawberry picking this spring!
Pancake Tuesday, February 13th.
Good afternoon,
This year pancake tuesday is on February 13th. In other countries it might be called shrove tuesday, or mardi gras.
Traditionally this is a day where we use up many of the supplies in our pantry in preparation for lent, a religious fasting period. Nowadays, even if our family is not religious we still celebrate pancake tuesday, especially for children. We make pancakes for breakfast or dinner and enjoy them with our favorite toppings, for example chocolate, lemon, sugar, strawberries or other fruit.
Will you make pancakes on this pancake Tuesday?
