One of the most difficult parts of English to wrap our heads around definitely has to be Grammar, English has so many hidden little rules and words that can mean so many different things. We even have secret rules that Native speakers don`t know that they know!

Despite this, Our students work hard every day, Chipping away at this grammar little by little. One student I have worked with quite a bit lately `S` has made huge progress with her word order exercises, By now, she can confidently work out the Subject, Verb and Object in a sentence that has been mixed up, and reliably take our WHo, What, How and When words and put them right where they need to be.

今日から8/18(日)までの期間は、アミティーはお盆のため休校いたします。
通常レッスンも、セミナーレッスンもございませんので、お間違えのないようお願い申し上げます。

Sometimes when we try new things it goes really really well, sometimes when we try them, It doesn`t go very well at all. Sometimes we feel great about it, even if it isn`t perfect, and sometimes even Amazing doesn`t feel amazing.

Today I want to celebrate a student who tried something scary and new for the first time and did an absolutely FANTASTIC job at it! one of our Younger students `Y` sat an Eiken 5th Grade placement test for the first time this week. She was quite cheerful and excited when she arrived but didn`t feel very confident about the test afterwards.

Despite this `Y` got over 80% on this first try, and out of all of the listening test section, she only answered four of the questions incorrectly. I think this a truly incredible achievement and shows how hard `Y` and students like her are working in their studies every single day!

みなさんこんにちは！
本日は小学校低学年クラスのグループレッスンのお話をいたします。

小3と小2のクラスメイトさんがいるこのクラス。
始めた時期はバラバラですが、みんなでお互いを助け合って英語の発話をしています。
前回のレッスンでは、"There is/are some ○○ in/on the ~~."という文章を練習しました。
約一か月前は、初めて見る単語も多く、リピートを中心にしていたみんなが、今回のレッスンでは自分で文章をしっかりいうことができていました！すごい！
冷蔵庫という単語も発話がしにくいのですが、一生懸命練習したので、正しく発話ができていました。

お盆のお休み中も、少しずつ英語をお家で練習して、お盆明けには元気な声で英語をお話するのを楽しみにしています！

Soon, Amity will be closing for the Obon holiday! As teachers we are very grateful for the upcomming break,
and I am sure most of our students are too! School will be closed from the 11th - 17th of August.
Normal classes will resume from the 18th.

I hope that all teachers and students enjoy the Obon holiday period! I look forward to seeing everybody ready
and fresh to take on their English lessons when we get back!
In the spirit of the upcoming break, here is a word for what I and some other teacers will be doing during our holiday:

Stay-cation = A vacation where you stay at home!

It is always a unique experience working with learners studying for English tests such as EIKEN. Learning a language is extremely challenging and I was moved by the effort of the younger learners here as they focused on listening and reading skills. It reminded me of the struggles I faced as a young learner. I wish all the students much success with their tests. - Michael.

This week marks our last wek before Amity goes on summer vacation! Of course, many of our students are already on summer vacation, but they have to come to class still, so one of our most popular conversation topics has been "What have you done/will you do for summer vacation?".

Some of our students have really nice plans! A lot have lamented that they have a lot of homework to do, while others are celebrating the summer heat by staying inside all day and sleeping haha!
One of the most exciting things I have heard however is all the students who will be travelling!
Many of my seminars through the last few weeks have been set around my home country, Australia, as we have many students going to do camps and homestays there! I have also heard from students about trips to exciting places like Hungary and China! I can`t wait to hear from everyone about their exciting adventures once they come back!

It can be so interesting and entertaining sometimes to see which parts of a lesson stick with students for the longest, one of my newest little students, `T` has been intergrating really well into his P1 classes, but he still doesn`t quite understand all of the parts of our lessons.

One part he absolutely loves though is our ABCs, as soon as he comes into the classroom he will look for our ABC boards, and he can recognise most of the letters on his own already, he will point to the correct letters and pictures as he sings and throughout the lesson if I introduce a word he recognises he will pause and declare which letter it begins with. one of his favourite sentences to say is "A is Apple! B is Boat!" he can find words for almost all the letters so far!

Unfortunately, `T` hasn`t quite the hang of being in a group class and letting his classmates try to answer or sing too, when it`s time for our ABC son, he will pause and tell others "No, Me!" if we try to sing with him, I hope that he will be able to get along with them better in the future, since his classmates seem really interested in playing with him!
