On Saturday my daughter will begin her Amity lessons.

As she is 3 years old, her first class will be P1 and the target will be shapes and alphabet.

Of course I will not be her teacher because this would be too distracting and, while she is having her class, I will actually be teaching an advanced level discussion lesson.

I have complete confidence in the professionalism and standard of care of her teacher and am very much looking forward to hearing about how it went.

Though, as her favorite word these days is "いやだ" it might be a bit chaotic.

The books for the next school year have arrived and are stacked on the shoe shelf as your enter the school.

I mention this because it's a sign of the changes coming up in April; one of which being that I'll be teaching a full Amity schedule and the Aeon lessons will have finished.

I'm optimistic about the future.

Japanese has a lot of words that have no equal in English, They can be explained, but there is no single word that has the same meaning.

This is the same the other way as well, there are some English words that don`t match to anything in Japanese.

I`ve picked out a few of my favourite words that are untranslatable.

Wabisabi, the art of finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence, the word and the philosophy both have no equal in English.

Boketto, Staring at nothing while thinking, the closest in English is the expression "to stare into space"

Itadakimasu, Many languages have a word or phrase that they say before eating a meal, some way to appreciate the food, but not English, instead, most English speakers that want to say something will use the french "Bon Apetit"

and finally Komorebi, the light that filters between tree leaves, this word has no equal but is often matched with the english word susorous, which describes the sound of leaves in the wind

Many of our students recieved their Eiken results this week!
Congratulations, to everyone, especially those who passed with extremely good results!
This is an outstanding achievement and I know that we are all very proud!

One of my highschool students, "Y" passed the 2nd grade Eiken test on his first attempt, which is amazing!

All children's lessons are naturally musical involving singing and chanting repetition.

Sometimes though in seminar classes I have the opportunity to play guitar as part of the lesson; either for children's songs or as an ambient background sound.

It is amazing how children can quickly grasp even complex sentence patterns provided their are taught as a tune.
