The Two Oceans Marathon has earned the global reputation as the most beautiful marathon in the world. It is Africa’s biggest running event, contributing R672 million annually to the Western Cape economy.
The race was initially intended to be a training run to help Cape Town runners prepare for the Comrades Marathon. The first 26 runners/participants that set out on 35-miles from Impala Park were unaware that they would be the pioneers of an event that now would attract over 9 000 entrants. Then, the entry fee was 50 cents while only 15 people finished the race. Dirkie Steyn won the event in 3:55:50 and ran barefoot.
Participants still today vote it as one of the best in South Africa and it continues to attract strong fields and an increasing number of international entrants. The event has become a part of the Easter Weekend in Cape Town, with the pre-race activities at the expo, family day, and fun runs on Easter Friday. Along the route there’s entertainment on the race day that provides fun, excitement, and a unique experience to runners, family, friends, and spectators altogether

Earth Day is this month! It is celebrated on April 22nd. Let’s learn about Earth Day and its history today. The first Earth Day in America was celebrated in 1970. U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson organized a day to draw attention and raise awareness about environmental issues such as the negative effects of pollution and overuse of natural resources on the environment. There were special lectures and discussions to encourage people to consider their impacts on our planet Earth. The U.S. government then created the Environmental Protection Agency and now many countries around the world celebrates Earth Day. This day increased public awareness of environmental concerns and respect for the environment. After learning some history of Earth Day, what environment concerns or problems do you want to learn more about?

On the 27th of April this year it is the 30th anniversary of South Africa's first elections for all. We celebrate our rich history and how fortunate we all are to live freely in South Africa.
South Africans mostly spend the day with friends and family having a barbeque; attend a proudly South African festival (Tankwa or Afrikaburn); hang out in Sandton (the Nelson Mandela square boasts a six-meter tall sculpture of Madiba); or enjoy the country’s public gardens (like Kirstenbosch gardens to see our national protea flower and yellowwood tree).
There are many exciting things to do in South African to celebrate our Freedom Day, so what would you choose to do for the South African Freedom Day?
